Igniter
Built for UPSC / IAS Coaching

The UPSC coaching app that runs like your institute does

UPSC is not a quiz-and-score exam. It's current affairs, essay writing, answer evaluation, optional subjects, interview prep — running over 2 years. Your coaching app must handle prelims mocks, mains answer-writing review, daily current-affairs feeds, and teacher-graded essays. Igniter is the only Indian coaching platform built with UPSC workflows in mind. ₹0 setup, 5% only when students enroll.

Why UPSC is unique

What UPSC coaching institutes actually need

UPSC prep is fundamentally different from JEE/NEET in four ways, and your coaching app must reflect that:

  • Current affairs is the spine — daily updates on government schemes, Supreme Court judgments, economic surveys, international relations. Your app needs a daily-digest push-notification workflow.
  • Mains is handwritten essay, not MCQ — students submit 150–300 word answers. Teachers review, grade, and give line-by-line feedback. No LMS built for MCQs handles this natively.
  • Optional subjects vary wildly — some students pick Sociology, others Anthropology, History, Philosophy. Your app must support parallel optional-subject tracks with different content and faculty.
  • Interview prep is video-based — mock interview recordings, feedback videos, personality profile tracking. Text-based doubt systems don't work for interview prep.

Built-in features

Everything a UPSC institute needs — included

Every UPSC institute that launches on Igniter gets these features at ₹0:

  • Daily current affairs feed — push a morning digest with auto-categorized items (polity, economy, IR, environment, science). Students get a daily notification.
  • Prelims mock tests — 100-question GS + 80-question CSAT mocks with All-India rank, sectional analysis, expected cutoff tracking against UPSC trends.
  • Mains answer-writing platform — students submit typed or handwritten answers (image upload). Faculty grade on rubrics: content, structure, examples, diagrams, value-addition. Word-count enforcement, time tracking, peer comparison.
  • Answer-writing rubrics — customizable grading templates per topic (GS1 History answers vs GS2 polity vs Essay). Consistent feedback at scale.
  • Optional subject tracks — each optional (Sociology, History, PSIR, etc.) is an independent course track with its own faculty, mocks, and answer-writing calendar.
  • Mock interview module — video calls with panel faculty, auto-recorded, feedback embedded at timestamps.
  • DAF-based interview prep — upload Detailed Application Form, auto-generate expected questions per hobby/job/hometown.
  • PYQ library — upload UPSC PYQs year-wise, topic-wise, with answer keys and toppers' answer examples.
  • Batch management — GS Foundation, Prelims Crash, Mains Test Series, Interview Guidance — each a distinct batch with its own fee and schedule.
  • Faculty-wise student dashboards — each faculty sees only their students' answer submissions and pending grading queue.

The answer-writing problem

How Igniter solves mains answer evaluation at scale

Most UPSC institutes face the same bottleneck: 50 students writing 3 answers daily = 150 answers to grade every day. No faculty can sustain that manually. Most institutes either reduce submission frequency (hurts student prep) or give rushed feedback (hurts quality).

Igniter solves this three ways. First, AI-assisted pre-grading: our AI reads each submission and flags structural issues (missing intro, no data, weak conclusion) before faculty reviews. Faculty only grades substantive content. Second, rubric-based scoring: one-click scoring on 5 parameters with dropdown feedback snippets means grading takes 2–3 minutes per answer instead of 10–15. Third, peer review pairing: students anonymously review each other's answers under faculty supervision, which both speeds up feedback volume and teaches students how toppers evaluate their own work.

Institutes using these features report grading capacity going up 3–4x without adding faculty.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Does Igniter support UPSC mains answer writing?

Yes. Students submit typed or handwritten answers (image upload). Faculty grade on customizable rubrics (content, structure, examples, value-add). AI pre-grading flags structural issues so faculty focus on substance. Feedback is line-by-line with scoring.

Can I push a daily current affairs feed?

Yes. Create daily articles tagged by topic (polity, economy, IR, environment, science, etc.). Students get a morning push notification with the digest. Auto-delivery can run via your team or we integrate a third-party current-affairs feed.

How do optional subjects work?

Each optional (Sociology, History, Anthropology, etc.) is an independent course track with its own syllabus, faculty, mocks, and answer-writing schedule. Students enroll in the optional of their choice and see only that content.

Is there a mock interview feature?

Yes. Video-based mock interviews with panel faculty, auto-recorded, feedback embedded at timestamps. Upload student's DAF to auto-generate expected questions. Maintain a timeline of mock interview history per student.

Can students do handwritten answer submissions?

Yes. Students photograph their handwritten answers and upload. OCR extracts text for search and word-count; faculty reviews the original image with annotation tools for line-by-line feedback.

Does Igniter have UPSC PYQ library?

You upload your own PYQ library; we support PDF import with OCR to extract questions automatically. Tag by year, paper (GS1/2/3/4, Essay, CSAT), and topic. Ships empty by default due to copyright on model answers; most institutes have full library loaded within a day.

What's the cost?

₹0 to launch, ₹0 monthly. 5% on actual course enrollment payments only. A UPSC institute doing ₹30 lakh/year in fees pays ₹1.5 lakh total on Igniter vs typical ₹3–5 lakh on Classplus/Graphy equivalents.

How long to launch?

24 hours. Signup, logo, template, first courses — all within a business day. Play Store approval takes 6–18 hours.
